Antonio Ive Library
Antonio Ive (Rovinj, 1851 – Graz, 1937) was a professor of the Italian language and classical philology. His elementary education began in Rovinj and continued in Kopar where Ive completed his secondary education in 1869. He graduated in the Italian language and classical philology in 1875 in Vienna, where he also completed his doctoral thesis focused on Italian studies. Spent a few years on a study tour of Italy and France. Antonio Ive taught at grammar schools in Kopar, Rovereto, Trento and Innsbruck. It is worth mentioning that he became the first Associate Professor of Italian studies at the University in Graz in 1894, promoted to the rank of Full Professor in 1902. Antonio Ive had a personal library which included around 3000 items that he bequeathed to Rovinj City Library. Today's library inventory of the Rovinj Heritage Museum comprises 2100 titles and manuscripts.
Particularly valuable are folk songs, fables and short stories collected in Antonio Ive's books Canti popolari istriani: raccolti a Rovigno (Turin 1877), Novelline popolari rovignesi and Fiabe popolari rovignesi (Vienna 1877–78). Ive collected information about the dialects of Istria and conducted field research, particularly about the rumeno-slavo language spoken in Lanišće.
